Kristen Nicole joined the FOX 32 news team as an anchor and reporter in March of 2016. She currently co-anchors Good Day Chicago every weekday.
A native Hoosier, Kristen is a graduate of DePauw University in Greencastle. That’s DePauw with a "W," not "L," which she now has to explain quite a bit living close to that other campus.
While at DePauw, Kristen had to opportunity to spend a semester overseas in Australia.
"It’s where I really began to grow," she says. "It was such a huge step to leave the little town where I grew up and to see what else the world had to offer, while being all on my own."
Next, was an internship in Ft. Myers, FL that got Kristen hooked in the business. She worked briefly at NBC in Ft. Wayne, Ind. before landing in Lexington, Ky. where she spent 11 unforgettable years.
"I went to Lexington expecting to do a 3-year contract and move on, but then life happened," Kristen says. "My son was born there, my sister moved close and eventually gave me two nephews and doors kept opening at LEX 18."
Kristen was the weekend anchor at the NBC station before launching a new 4 p.m. show and taking over the Crime Stoppers program.
"I could not be more proud of the growth of the program," she says. "I hope we helped people sleep a little easier knowing that we were going after and locking up some of the area’s most wanted."
Kristen also reported from the site of the 2006 Comair plane crash that claimed 49 lives, when it crashed on take-off leaving Blue Grass Airport. And maybe most memorable, she first exposed "Bogus Beggar" Gary Thompson and worked with federal investigators to uncover his social security and welfare scam that eventually landed him in federal prison, bringing his disability faking, panhandling act to a screeching halt.
And being a HUGE Kentucky fan, she was thrilled to be on the floor at Rupp Arena when the Cats returned from New Orleans with their 8th national title.
"I drank the blue Kool-Aid early," she says. "I’m a forever member of the BBN."
November 2015 brought a new chapter for Kristen, when she got married and decided it was time to grow again.
"Chicago is a treasure trove of opportunities for a journalist. There’s so much history and so many stories waiting to be told," Kristen says. "I couldn’t wait to get to one of the greatest cities in the world and get to work!"
Connect with Kristen on social media and she says you’ll find, "she’s as cool as the other side of the pillow!" But seriously, "point me, my husband and son to all of the city’s hidden gems!"
