Multi-instrumentalist and producer Phoelix gains fan following in Chicago

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - He's already known for being a masterful multi-instrumentalist and a flourishing producer. And in 2018, his stock will continue to ascend as he breaks out on his own. That's why tonight, Phoelix is our next Rising Star.

Raised in the Fox Valley, Phoelix knew early on that music was his destiny. Brought up surrounded by music, he was easily drawn to the sounds that filled his family's home.

But music wasn't the only thing that impacted his upbringing. Born to a pastor and choir director, the church played a vital role in his youth. It was the gospel music that he heard during worship that would go on to influence his musical style but it was also the church created inner conflict inside of Phoelix.

Residing in a predominately white neighborhood and outside of Chicago city limits, Phoelix's  search for an identity continued throughout his younger years but it was the Fox Valley that ultimately brought him a sense of belonging

It was a chance encounter in 2015 that would go on to change Phoelix's life.

While attending a concert in Logan Square, Phoelix was introduced and quickly befriended Saba, Noname and Smino - three counterparts that he quickly developed musical and personal friendships with. Friendships that would go on to change the musical landscape of the Chicago hip hop scene and help ignite Phoelix's career.

After working on critically acclaimed albums by Saba, Noname and Smino, and touring with them as a band member, Phoelix stepped out on his own last year with the release of his first EP, GSPL, which helped him garner his own praise.

Next month, Phoelix will release his debut full length album, Tempo. FOX 32 News got an early preview of the 18 track project, it's one that displays immense growth and creativity and one that will cement Phoelix's place in the hip hop world.

With so much success behind him, and so much still to achieve, Phoelix offers this advice for those looking to reach his level of accomplishment.

Friday, Phoelix will be releasing "Drip" the first single off his new album, Tempo. It will be available across all streaming platforms.
