Officials: Students eating plant seeds to cause hallucinations

- School officials in a Massachusetts town are warning parents that some students are eating plant seeds to cause hallucinations. Stores in Seekonk and Somerset have removed the seeds from shelves.

At least one student in Somerset was been hospitalized after ingesting seeds at a party, Fox 25 reported.

The plant seeds, Sleepy Grass, Hawaiian Baby Woodrose, and Blue Morning Glory, contain d-lysergic acid amide (LSA), which closely resembles LSD. When ingested, LSA can cause auditory and visual hallucinations and side effects include nausea  and vomiting.

While the behavior is trending now, it has been happening since 2009, Fox 25 reported. Some students have been eating the seeds on school grounds.
