Jake Hamilton counts down the top 10 ‘Buzz' stories of the year

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) – FOX 32’s Jake Hamilton took some time during Good Day Chicago Thursday to take a look back at the top 10 biggest entertainment stories of the year.

There were plenty to choose from, but Jake narrowed the list down to a pretty solid top 10 list:

10. Lamar Odom’s overdose

In October, Odom was found unconscious on the floor of the love ranch in Las Vegas after reportedly spending four days partying and taking herbal substitutes for Viagra. And that's just where the drama began. The Kardashian circus instantly swung in, took advantage of the real life drama, and made this one of the biggest entertainment stories of the year.

9. ‘Empire’ dominates television

When the new series premiered on FOX in January of this year, it was a modest hit. But by the time the first season came to an end, ratings had exploded and the entire nation was talking about it. Many news outlets have named Taraji P. Henson entertainer of the year, proving that it's Cookie's world -- and we're just living in it.

8. Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe screw up

It was perhaps the most cringe-worthy moment in television this year, when Harvey incorrectly announced that Miss Colombia had won, only to be forced to come back on stage to say that Miss Philippines was the actual winner.

7. Charlie Sheen’s HIV diagnosis

Just last month, Sheen -- who is known for his wild and crazy partying lifestyle -- made a bomb shell announcement that he is HIV positive. While he did say that he had not transmitted the disease to anyone else, women have come forward saying that sheen engaged in sexual activity with them without warning of his HIV status.

6. Adele releases ‘Hello’

The song was seemingly inescapable from the moment it hit the airwaves. From worldwide parodies, to spurring men and women to drunkenly call their exes, "Hello" changed the tune of 2015 like no other song could.

5. Brian Williams lies

All credibility was lost for the popular news anchor when it was revealed that he had "misremembered" being in a helicopter when it was hit by a grenade during the Iraq war. He was removed from NBC Nightly News and only reappeared months later on MSNBC.

4. David Letterman retires

The last remaining late night legacy took his final bow in May after more than two decades of hosting "The Late Show." The final episode was filled with celebrity cameos and a surprisingly humble Letterman, making for a perfect exit for a nearly perfect host.

3. ‘Star Wars’ dominates theaters

No other movie dominated the conversation this year like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. From the countless fan theories leading up to its release, to the countless records it broke once it was released, the film was nothing short of a pop culture phenomenon that will likely become the highest grossing film in the history of movies.

2. Caitlyn Jenner reveals herself to the world

There was a lot of talk leading up to this moment about Bruce Jenner’s transition into a woman, but after a revealing interview with Diane Sawyer, Caitlyn Jenner revealed herself to the public through a Vanity Fair cover. She's made several media appearances since then - including right here in Chicago - and currently stars in the reality series "I Am Cait."

1. Accusations and charges against Bill Cosby

No other story dominated the entertainment headlines this year like America’s father being exposed as an alleged rapist. Dozens of women came forward to tell their stories and after months of allegations, Cosby was just officially charged Wednesday with three cases of sexual assault.
