New football equipment to help in reducing head and neck injuries

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Last weekend, 17-year-old Kansas high school student Luke Schemm collapsed on the football field and died. The incident marks the eleventh death to happen during a football game in the U.S. since July.

Of the 11, seven of those deaths were directly related to blunt force trauma. The problem has become so serious, some doctors have devoted their time to finding ways to make football a safer sport.

One of those doctors, Dr. Patrick Kerr, joined us on Good Day Chicago Friday morning to talk more about his "Kerr Collar."
