95-year-old Sunnyside woman dies less than 2 months after sexual assault

- Last month, we reported on 95-year-old Ophelia Outley. She was the victim of a violent sexual attack in her home, all so the man behind the attack could rob her of her television.

Now a month later, we've received the news that Outley passed on Wednesday. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

ORIGINAL REPORT: “We want to say to the perpetrator World War II couldn’t kill this sister. Segregation couldn’t kill this sister. The Klan and all other couldn’t kill this beautiful sister,” said community activist Quanell X.

And the man who viciously beat and sexually attacked 95-year-old Ophelia Outley couldn’t make her fear for her life.

“I didn’t really fear for my life for him, I really didn’t,” Outley said.

It was around 11 p.m. on Martin Luther King Day last month.

The man who Outley describes as tall, god looking, and smelled like smoke got into her Sunnyside home by taking the air conditioner out of the window.

“He took the blanket and tried to wrap it around my head and I guess that’s how my arm got broke,” Outley said. “I was trying to protect myself.”

He flipped over her mattress and emptied all the elderly woman’s drawers onto the floor.

“Money, money, money! I don’t want you, I want money,” Outley recalled the man saying. “I said I don’t keep no money in this house.”

Before leaving, the man took Outley’s phone so she couldn’t call 911.

“He started to go back out the window, but I guess he got scared or something and he went back out my front door and left it open,” Outley said. “That made me kind of crawl through the floor.”

Outley has this advice for all of us.

“Be careful, just be careful,” Outley said. “You never know where they are.”
