We're at the halfway point of the meteorological winter and so far it hasn't been that bad, especially in terms of snowfall.
The average high temperature since December 1st is 26.3 degrees compared to 21.4 degrees through the halfway point of last winter. That's 5.2 degrees colder than this winter.
We've had 15 days below 32 degrees so far this winter compared to 24 days through the midway point of last winter.
Chicago has seen 5 days below 0 so far this winter compared to 11 days below 0 through the midway point of last winter.
The big difference is when we look at the average low temperature. The average low temperature since December 1st is 20.7 degrees compared to 12.7 degrees through the halfway point of last winter. That's an 8 degree difference.
So far this winter, Chicago has received 10.8 inches of snow. At the halfway point of last winter, Chicago had already received 34.1 inches of snow compared to the normal of 13.1 inches of snow.
