1 killed, 10 wounded in Thursday shootings across Chicago

A man was killed and at least 10 more people, including a 10-year-old girl, were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Thursday.

The homicide happened about 10:35 a.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Malik Philpot, 20, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the abdomen about 10:35 a.m. in the 4200 block of West West End Avenue, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Philpot, who lived in the 1300 block of North Parkside, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m., authorities said. The circumstances of the shooting were unknown.

The 10-year-old girl was among three people shot on a Humboldt Park neighborhood porch about 12:40 p.m.

They were sitting outside in the 4100 block of West Potomac when someone walked up and fired shots, police said. A 30-year-old man was shot in the left leg and again in the right arm, though the bullet traveled to his chest. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. A 25-year-old man was shot in both ankles, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. The girl suffered a graze wound to the left arm, and was taken to Norwegian American Hospital in fair condition, police said.

Thursday’s last two shootings happened about the same time in separate West Side attacks about 11:35 p.m.

In another Humboldt Park shooting, an 18-year-old man was shot twice in the shoulder and once in the shoulder blade in the 2600 block of West Hirsch and taken to Stroger Hospital. Additional details were not available.

In Austin, a 29-year-old man was outside in the 4800 block of West Gladys when he got into a fight with another man who pulled out a gun and shot him in the the lower back and both legs. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About 11:20 p.m. in Englewood on the South Side, a 27-year-old man was driving in the 7100 block of South Green when he heard gunshots and realized he had been hit in the arm and leg, police said. His condition was stabilized at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

Another Austin shooting wounded a 16-year-old boy about 8 p.m. He was outside in the 500 block of North Central when a van drove up and suspects fired shots hitting him in the buttocks. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About 5:50 p.m. in West Englewood, a 14-year-old boy was in the 6700 block of South Hermitage when he heard shots and felt pain.A bullet grazed his abdomen and he was treated and released at the scene, police said.

A Logan Square drive-by shooting wounded a 20-year-old man about 1 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Palmer. He was shot in the left arm and was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

Thursday’s first shooting happened about 4:20 a.m. in the Lathrop Homes neighborhood on the North Side, where a 47-year-old man was walking in the 2000 block of West Diversey when a black Honda Civic pulled up and someone inside yelled gang slogans before shooting him in the abdomen and lower right back, police said. He was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
