1 dead, 13 wounded in shootings Thursday

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A 52-year-old man was shot and killed and at least 13 other people were wounded in shootings Thursday across Chicago.

Paul Webster was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle about 5:26 p.m. in the 2800 block of West 84th Place when a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Webster, whose home address wasn’t known Friday morning, was shot in the chest and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 6:08 p.m., authorities said.

Police initially said Webster was 63 years old.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred about 11:40 p.m. in Englewood.

A 31-year-old man was standing outside in the 6300 block of South Parnell about 11:40 p.m. when a black sedan pulled up and someone inside shot him in the abdomen, leg and arm, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

Ten minutes earlier, a male, whose age was not immediately known, was shot in the leg in the 8300 block of South Carpenter, police said. He was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Oak Lawn, but his condition wasn’t known early Friday.

A 25-year-old man was shot Thursday night in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was driving west on 47th Street near California Avenue about 10:10 p.m. when someone in a black car shot him in the back, according to police. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

A 28-year-old man was shot was shot in the left foot, right leg and on the right side of his abdomen about 8:30 p.m. in the 700 block of East 43rd Street in Bronzeville. The man was standing on a corner when a white SUV drove up and someone inside fired shots, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

A 25-year-old man was shot in the right leg at 8:28 p.m. in the Gage Park neighborhood. The man was walking in the 5100 block of South Rockwell when he heard gunfire and realized he was shot. He was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

A 36-year-old man was gravely wounded after he was shot in the face about 7:45 p.m. in the 5300 block of South Princeton in the Fuller Park neighborhood on the South Side. He was taken in grave condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.

Two people were shot about 6:30 p.m. in the Brighton Park neighborhood. A 17-year-old boy was shot in both legs and a 26-year-old man was shot on his right side while they were walking in the 3000 block of West 40th Street. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where their conditions were stabilized, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the left arm and right calf about 5:50 p.m. while he was standing in the sidewalk in the 400 block of East 63rd in the Woodlawn neighborhood. The teen was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where his condition was stabilized, according to police.

A 21-year-old man was shot in the head about 5:10 p.m. in the 5900 block of West Race in the Austin neighborhood. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in serious condition, police said.

A 25-year-old man was shot about 4 p.m. while walking in the 6500 block of South Claremont in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. He was shot in the left arm and taken in good condition to Christ Medical Center, police said.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the face at 3:57 p.m. in the 6100 block of South Indiana in the Washington Park neighborhood. He was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

The first shooting on Thursday occurred about 12:40 a.m. when a 37-year-old man was shot on his right side while driving in the 5800 block of South Wabash. He drove himself to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
