Police: Man with gun barricaded himself inside Antioch home

- A 37-year-old man barricaded himself inside a home in north suburban Antioch for about five hours Wednesday, according to police.

At 11:59 a.m., officers responded to a home in the 700 block of Highview Court in Antioch for a report of a man with a gun inside the home, according to a statement from Antioch police.

A woman told officers that her boyfriend held a gun to the back of her head and threatened to shoot her dog, then struck her several times with the firearm, police said.

When the officers arrived, her boyfriend, 37-year-old Jacobi Marotta, retreated back inside the home, police said.

The woman and the other residents of the home were evacuated, but police could not make contact with Marotta. Officers secured a perimeter around the house and requested assistance from other law enforcement agencies, including the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System.

Several roads in the area were shut down for about five hours and neighbors were told to stay in their homes, police said.

Officers negotiated with Marotta to try to get him to safely leave the house, but he refused, police said. Tear gas was deployed and he finally surrendered.

No one was injured, police said. The road closures and shelter in place were lifted about 5 p.m.

Marotta was charged with two felony counts of aggravated battery, one felony count of enhanced domestic battery, and one misdemeanor count of aggravated assault, police said. He is being held at the Lake County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
