$1K reward offered for person of interest in Naperville arson

Naperville Crime Stoppers are offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of an arsonist who set someone’s tent on fire Sunday afternoon in the west suburb.

The tent behind the Mobil gas station at 1420 E. Ogden was destroyed in the fire just before 2 p.m., according to a statement from Naperville police.

The tent was unoccupied at the time, but police believe it was targeted because the owner was described as “a person involved with public protest and is very opinionated on social media.”

Police are searching for a man seen near the tent just before the fire whose image and car were captured on surveillance footage.

The person of interest was described as a 6-foot white man, 50-60, with a medium-to-heavy build and gray or white hair, wearing prescription glasses, a short-sleeved button down and faded jeans, police said. The vehicle is believed to be a Hyundai.

Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at (630) 420-6006. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
