2 dead, 8 wounded in Tuesday shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) - Two men were killed and at least eight other people were wounded in shootings Tuesday on the South, West and Southwest sides.

A 28-year-old man was shot to death Tuesday evening in the Pilsen neighborhood.

The man was in the 1700 block of West Cermak Road at 6:48 p.m. when someone walked up and shot him in his chest and side, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the fatality early Wednesday, but did not release additional details.

Tuesday morning, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

Rashawn Gooden Jr. was exiting a business in the 4900 block of West Division at 9:05 a.m. when several shots were fired and he was struck multiple times in the back, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Gooden, of the 4800 block of West Augusta Boulevard, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:38 a.m., according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred in Austin.

A 26-year-old man was seated in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle in the 300 block of South Laramie about 9:25 p.m. when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. He drove himself to the 5200 block of West Congress, where he was picked up by a Chicago Fire Department ambulance and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. He was shot in the right side and right thigh. His condition had stabilized, police said.

Tuesday evening, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the South Side Englewood neighborhood. He was standing outside in the 1100 block of West 70th Street about 6:50 p.m. when someone walked up and fired shots before running away, police said. The teenager was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

At 6:36 p.m. in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, a 34-year-old man was in the 6200 block of South Troy Street when a dark-colored SUV pulled up and someone inside fired shots, police said. He suffered gunshot wounds to the abdomen and left hand and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition.

Another Chicago Lawn neighborhood shooting left a 17-year-old boy wounded less than 15 minutes earlier. The teenager was was shot in the left leg about 6:25 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Maplewood, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in fair condition.

About 4:55 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. He was in the 5100 block of South Trumbull Avenue when someone approached him from behind and fired shots, hitting once him in the abdomen, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

A 24-year-old man was walking in the 1500 block of South Spaulding in the North Lawndale neighborhood shortly before 4 p.m. when he heard shots and felt pain to his back, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to his back. He was listed in fair condition.

About 3:20 p.m., a 22-year-old man was injured in a Little Village neighborhood drive-by shooting. He was walking in the 2700 block of South Kedvale when a vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots, police said. He was shot once in the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

The day’s first shooting occurred in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side. A 62-year-old man was shot in the leg just after 7 a.m. in the 500 block of East 33rd Street, according to police. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition stabilized.
