2 officers hurt when person tosses firecracker at CPD squad car

Two Chicago Police officers were hurt when a person tossed a firecracker at their squad car late Sunday afternoon in the South Shore neighborhood.

The officers were on patrol in the 7400 block of South Exchange when another vehicle pulled up alongside them about 4:20 p.m. and someone inside it threw the firecracker toward their windshield of the squad car, according to police.

It exploded, and the officers suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening. They were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.

The other vehicle sped away. No one was in custody for the incident Sunday night.
