Orland Park police seek 2 teen boys after carjacking, chase from Matteson

ORLAND PARK (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A carjacking suspect was in custody and two more remained on the loose after a police chase ended Monday in southwest suburban Orland Park.

The pursuit began with a carjacking in south suburban Matteson, according to Orland Park Police Cmdr. Anthony Farrell.

Matteson police notified Orland Park authorities at 2:12 a.m. that a vehicle wanted in connection with an aggravated vehicular hijacking was headed their way, Farrell said. An Orland Park officer spotted the vehicle heading into a subdivision, and it was found abandoned at 2:15 a.m. on a lawn near 153rd Street and Hilltop Drive.

Officers searched the area and were able to arrest one suspect, but two others got away, Farrell said. The suspect who was arrested was turned over to Matteson police and charges against him were pending.

The at-large suspects were both teenage boys wearing dark hoodies, according to a statement from Orland Park police. One of them was possibly armed.

Officers conducted an “extensive search” of the area but were unable to find them, police said about 9:15 a.m. Police have “received information through this investigation that supports our belief the offenders are no longer in the area.”

Orland Park police and other departments continued to investigate Monday morning. Anyone with information on the suspects was asked to call Orland Park police at (708) 349-4111.
