Rockford drug bust may be largest in city history, police say

- Police in Rockford say they've made what they believe to be the largest drug seizure in the city's history with a value of $8.6 million.

Rockford police laid out the drugs on a table Thursday, including bricks of packaged cocaine and methamphetamine stacked alongside $116,000 in cash and two loaded firearms. Rockford Police Chief Dan O'Shea called it a "significant hit" to the drug trade in the northern Illinois city.

Authorities say the bust is the result of a year-long investigation. Officers seized 50 kilograms of cocaine, 19 kilograms of methamphetamine and 1 kilogram of fentanyl.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan was at the Tuesday news conference announcing the seizure. She called the case "incredibly important."

One arrest was made and investigators are looking for another suspect.
