SWAT responds to West Side home after man shot, critically wounded

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A SWAT team responded Thursday afternoon to a home in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, where a person who Chicago Police believe shot a man minutes earlier was barricaded inside.

About 2:25 p.m., the 19-year-old man was on foot in the 700 block of North Lawndale when an unknown person shot him in the face, police said.

The man was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, police said. Police initially reported that the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

About five minutes later, police were led to a home in the 500 block of North Hamlin, where witnesses said a possible suspect in the shooting was barricaded inside.

A SWAT team was on scene until about 7:15 p.m., when police were given consent to search the residence and nobody was found inside, police said.
