Lillie Turner, 65, Shot in leg

FOX 32 NEWS - The inside of Lillie Turner's apartment was cleaned up Tuesday afternoon, but earlier it had been covered in a pool of her own blood.

The 65-year-old woman was standing right inside her front door in the 3400 block of West Fulton when a stray bullet, fired in a drive-by shooting, pierced the door and struck her in the back of her left leg.

“She was standing by the front door, about to get ready and walk out, she was tying her shoes and when she raised up, that's when they started shooting, we heard gunshots,” said Turner’s daughter, Franchester Wilkerson.

Turner, a security guard with Comed, was just about to go outside to get her mail. A neighbor said he heard at least 20 shots and saw someone firing from the back, driver's side window of a newer black Chevy Tahoe that drove east on Fulton around 1:00 PM.

Police say two 16-year-old boys standing on the sidewalk were killed in that hail of bullets. Neighbors believe they were there selling drugs.

“It surprises me, but then it's really not a surprise because they sell drugs on the block, and then if they sell drugs, wherever there's drugs there's got to be some money, so they're going to get you for your money. There got to be a weapon,” said neighbor Ellen White.

Turner's daughter shudders to think what might have happened if her mother had been outside.

“Not trying to think like that but we thought about, we don't know how that would've went if she would've opened that door,” Wilkerson said.

She has now reached a new level of frustration with the constant shootings on the West Side.

“I don't know what to think, it's just crazy over here, it's really getting outrageous over here on this block, It's nobody safe, nobody,” Wilkerson said.

Turner was taken to Mt. Sinai hospital where her daughter said she is doing well. She is going to stay there overnight and could come home Wednesday.

Police had no suspects and no one in custody Tuesday night.
