$3.5M bond for 3rd suspect in Wheaton College student kidnapping

(SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - Bond was set at $3.5 million for the third person charged with kidnapping and robbing a Wheaton College student at gunpoint last month in west suburban Glen Ellyn.
Jeremy Jones, 23, of the 300 block of Washington Street in Elgin, was arrested Sept. 18 and charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping, two counts of armed robbery and one count of armed violence, all felonies, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Judge John Kinsella ordered him held on $3.5 million Friday morning and his next court date was scheduled for Nov. 1.
About 9:50 a.m. Aug. 26, the student was walking in downtown Glen Ellyn when a small SUV occupied by Jones, 18-year-old Abeet Ramos, and an unnamed juvenile male pulled up, prosecutors said. Two of them got out, pulled out a handgun and told the victim to get in the vehicle.
They drove to multiple ATMs and used the victim’s debit card to withdraw more than $1,500 from his account, prosecutors said. They then drove to Chicago and let him go about 11:37 a.m., at which point he called 911.
Ramos, of the 900 block of West Spring Street in Elgin, was arrested Aug. 30 and charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping, one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated unlawful restraint, all felonies, prosecutors said. He is being held on a $3 million bond and is expected to appear in court Sept. 26 before Kinsella.
The juvenile was arrested Sept. 6 and charged with two felony counts of aggravated kidnapping and one felony count of armed robbery, according to prosecutors. He is currently being detained and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 12 before Judge Robert Anderson.
