Man charged with stealing from residents of Elmhurst senior living facility

ELMHURST, Ill. (STMW) -  A man has been charged with stealing jewelry from several residents of a senior living facility in west suburban Elmhurst.

Eugene Dorsey, 29, of the 4900 block of West Grace Street in Chicago faces eight counts of residential burglary, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Between Nov. 4 and Nov. 25, Dorsey entered at least eight residents’ homes in the independent living side of the Park Place facility and stole rings, bracelets and necklaces, according to prosecutors. He then pawned the stolen items.

Elmhurst police began an investigation after a resident realized items were missing from their home on Nov. 11, according to the statement. Dorsey works on the assisted living side of the facility and should not have been on the independent living side.

“The allegations that Mr. Dorsey stole valuables worth thousands of dollars from seniors, all of whom are more than 80 years old, is unconscionable,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the statement.

Judge Richard Russo ordered Dorsey held on a $300,000 bond Wednesday, according to the statement. He is next scheduled to appear in court Dec. 28.
