CHICAGO (STMW) - A Chicago man has been charged with stabbing his girlfriend to death in her apartment in southwest suburban Woodridge in October.
Launden Luckett, 28, has been charged with the murder of 26-year-old Cecily Dickey, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Dickey was found dead by Woodridge police conducting a well-being check at her apartment in the 7200 block of Woodward Drive on Oct. 19, according to the statement. She had been choked and stabbed repeatedly.
Prosecutors claim that three days earlier, on Oct. 16, Dickey drove to Chicago, picked up Luckett and brought him back to her apartment. About 3 a.m. Oct. 17, the two got into an argument which turned physical.
Dickey ran to the bathroom to get away from Luckett, but he chased her and stabbed her in the abdomen, prosecutors said. She then ran out of the bathroom and he grabbed her, knocked her to the floor and continued to choke and stab her.
Luckett then stole her cellphone, debit card and car; and took off, prosecutors said. Several days later, he was arrested in Cook County on unrelated charges.
Luckett, of the 0-100 block of West 114th Street, was ordered held without bond Wednesday morning. He is next scheduled to appear in court Jan. 7.
