7-year-old girl struck by Pace bus in Woodstock
WOODSTOCK (STMW) - A 7-year-old girl who was struck by a Pace bus Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in northwest suburban Woodstock has been released from the hospital.
The girl was struck by the 13-seat bus while walking about 3:15 p.m. in the Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot at 1275 Lake Ave., according to Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Capt. Brendan Parker.
The bus was traveling in a lane between parked cars when the crash happened, according to Woodstock police. The girl’s father was with her at the time and witnessed the crash.
The girl was initially taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, then was airlifted by Flight For Life to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries. But police said Wednesday afternoon that she has been released from the hospital.
The bus was carrying the driver and five passengers, none of whom were injured in the crash, said Pace spokesman Patrick Wilmot. It was contracted and operating the McHenry County MCRide, a dial-a-ride program that helps commuters and people with disabilities schedule rides.
The bus driver, Lynne R. Keller of Huntley, was cited for failure to use due care and failure to signal, and is scheduled to appear in court in Woodstock on Feb. 26, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
