CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Police in the south suburbs are piecing together a crime that left at least one person dead and another person clinging to life.
Investigators in Dolton say someone opened fire on two people while they were sitting in a car, shooting them at a very close range.
The incident occurred in the 15300 block of South Irving Avenue.
Police officials found as many as two dozen shell casings at the scenes, and three fun shot holes appear to have been point blank into the windows of the vehicle.
Officials have identified the deceased as 19-year-old DeArrea Haymond, a young mother. The injured individual has been identified as her new boyfriend. He has been listed in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
Police say the couple did not have any gang affiliations.
No one was in custody at last check.
Dolton say 16 murders in 2015, 11 of those murders went unsolved. We are just over a week into the new year, and this is already the second murder of 2016.
