CHICAGO (STMW) - Two men were killed and four others were wounded in shootings on the South and West sides on Monday in a bloody start to the month of February.
The first fatal shooting of the month happened about 12:30 a.m. in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
A 42-year-old man was shot in the chest in the 500 block of South Cicero and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, police said. His name has not yet been released.
The other fatal shooting happened about 10:15 a.m. in the South Side Washington Heights neighborhood.
Paul C. Sappington, 31, opened the front door of his home in the 9000 block of South May and was shot by two males, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene less than half an hour later.
A few minutes after 11 a.m., a 19-year-old man showed up at a South Side hospital after he was shot in the South Shore neighborhood.
The man was shot in the leg in the 7800 block of South Jeffery, he told investigators. His condition was stabilized at Jackson Park Hospital.
About 11:30 a.m., a man was shot in the leg in Austin.
The 24-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 4800 block of West Adams, police said. He was taken to Loretto Hospital.
The latest shooting Monday happened about 8:40 p.m. in Austin.
Two men, both 45, were sitting in a pickup truck in the 0-100 block of South Mason when someone shot into the vehicle, police said.
One of the men was shot several times in torso and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. The other man was shot in the left thigh and taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition stabilized.
