19-year-old man charged with Aurora 7-11 robbery

AURORA (STMW) - A west suburban 19-year-old man has been charged with robbery after police posted surveillance photos of him taking part in the robbery of an Aurora convenience store on Facebook.

Dangelo Williams, of the 700 block of Liberty Street in Aurora, was charged with three counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated battery on Tuesday, according to a statement from the Aurora Police Department.

At 11:35 p.m. Feb. 12, Williams and an unknown accomplice, who both wore bandanas, robbed a 7-11 in the 2200 block of South Eola Road in Aurora, according to the statement.

The two men walked up to the 45-year-old man who worked at the store and pulled a gun and demanded money before they attacked the man. As the men ran out of the store, they grabbed cash and cigarettes.

Williams also hit a 20-year-old man inside the store in the ear, but the man did not require medical attention. The store clerk was treated and released from an Aurora hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

On Feb. 17, police released surveillance photos from the robbery on Facebook and in the media. Later that day, detectives received two phone calls from people stating they saw the photos on Facebook and identified the man as Williams, police said.

Williams was arrested on an unrelated warrant at his home on Feb. 26. He is currently in an Aurora hospital “receiving care for issues unrelated to the robbery.” His accomplice is described as a black male standing 5-foot-9 to 6-foot and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Aurora police investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.
