Armed robbers target Northwest Side convenience stores

CHICAGO (STMW) - Chicago Police are warning Northwest Side business owners after robbers targeted two convenience stores in the last week in the Portage Park and Avondale neighborhoods.

Three suspects entered the stores and robbed them at gunpoint, according to the community alert from Area North detectives.

The robberies happened at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 5500 block of West Montrose and at 12:05 a.m. Thursday in the 3200 block of North Kimball, police said.

The suspects in the Montrose robbery were described as three black men between 25 and 35 years old, police said. Two were about 5-foot-10 and slim, and were wearing black jackets and blue jeans. The third suspect was slim and about 5-foot-5, and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.

The suspects in the Kimball robbery matched the same description, according to police. One of the suspects was wearing a gray and pink hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and the other two were wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
