Chicago school bus driver shot in the head speaks out

FOX 32 NEWS - On Wednesday, a school bus driver who was shot while driving a bus full of students said his first instinct was to protect the kids on his bus.

The incident happened last Friday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood and now the school bus driver says he's blessed to be alive.

31-year-old Andre Steele was just going down his normal route when shots rang out and he felt pressure on his face.

He was driving the students back to school at Christ the King College  Prep when he unknowingly drove into gang crossfire.

His driver’s side window shattered as a bullet flew through the bus, striking him on the cheek.

Almost a week later, he says he's still having issues seeing out of his left eye. None of the 32 students on the bus were injured.

Friends are hoping to raise a few thousand dollars on a GoFundMe account to help him pay medical bills.

Police are still looking for the shooter.
