Clerk shot to death during 7-11 robbery in Hammond

HAMMOND, Ind. (STMW) - A south suburban man was fatally shot during a robbery at a convenience store Wednesday morning in northwest Indiana.

A suspect entered the 7-Eleven store in the 6000 block of Hohman Avenue in Hammond at 4:39 a.m. and fired shots, striking the 60-year-old clerk twice, according to Hammond Police Lt. Richard Hoyda.

The clerk, identified as Roger Unton of the 1700 block of Broadway in Blue Island, was taken to St. Margaret’s Hospital in Hammond where he was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m., according to the Lake County coroner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.
