Cops injured in crash; man in custody for striking CFD employee

A male offender was in custody after his vehicle crashed into a Chicago Police vehicle and struck a member of the fire department who was responding to the scene in Bridgeport Monday afternoon.

Two officers, who ages were not immediately known, were on patrol and driving southbound at 4:33 p.m. in the 3500 block of South Halsted, according to Chicago Police. The male driver of a vehicle headed northbound on Halsted veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the patrol vehicle.

Both officers were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

A Chicago Fire Department employee who responded to the scene was struck in the face by the driver who collided with police and suffered a minor laceration, police said. He was taken to a hospital with  injuries that were also not life-threatening.

The driver of the offending vehicle was taken in custody to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. Charges were pending Monday night.
