Student charged after handgun, ammo found in West Side school

FOX 32/SUN-TIMES - Charges were pending against a student Thursday afternoon after a weapon was found inside an East Garfield Park neighborhood school on the West Side.

Julius Burke, 20, was charged with one felony county of unlawful use of a weapon at a school after the handgun was recovered from his locker and police found ammunition in his sock.

Officers responded to a call of a person with a gun at 1:37 p.m., prompting a lockdown at the school in the 500 block of North Sacramento, according to Chicago Police.

A weapon was recovered from inside the school and the lockdown was over by about 4 p.m., police said. Burke was taken into custody and charges were pending Thursday afternoon.
