A 72-year-old woman and 51-year-old man were hit by a vehicle that was fleeing police Tuesday night in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.

The two were struck by the vehicle at the intersection of Fifth and Homan avenues at 6:46 p.m., according to police and fire department officials.

Both were taken to Stroger Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, according to Fire Media Affairs.

It was not immediately known if police were chasing after the vehicle when it struck the two, said police News Affairs Officer Michelle Tannehill.

One person was taken into police custody after the two were struck and charges against them were pending Tuesday night, Tannehill added.
