Evanston man gets 13 years for sexually assaulting child

EVANSTON, Ill. (FOX 32 News) - A north suburban man was sentenced to 13 years in prison Wednesday for sexually assaulting a child younger than 13 multiple times over a three-year period.

Baraka A. Olla, 40, was found guilty Sept. 2 of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony; and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

On Wednesday, Kane County Circuit Judge James Hallock sentenced Olla to 13 years in prison.

Prosecutors said Olla sexually assaulted and sexually abused the child multiple times between the summer of 2011 and early 2014. Olla knew the victim, and the assaults occurred at the victim’s Elgin home.

The sentence is 10 years for the assault count and three years each for the abuse counts, which will be served concurrent to each other but consecutive to the assault count, prosecutors said.

Olla, of the 1300 block of Washington Street in Evanston, must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence for the assault and he is eligible for day-for-day credit on the abuse counts. He received credit for at least 630 days served in the Kane County Jail.

Olla must also register for life in accordance with the Illinois’ Sex Offender Registration Act.
