A Cook County Jail detainee is facing new charges after he allegedly threw feces at a jail guard for the second time in a week.

Vernon Patterson, 26, faces a new count of aggravated battery to a peace officer, according to a statement from the Cook County sheriff’s office.

About 7:10 p.m. Saturday, Patterson threw feces at a deputy in the showering area of the Division 9 housing tier, according to the sheriff’s office.

Patterson was moved to the division, which is overseen by the jail’s emergency response team, after he threw feces at and punched another deputy about 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2, according to the sheriff’s office. He was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer in that incident.

Patterson has been in the jail since December after he was charged with home invasion with a firearm.

He was ordered held on a $50,000 for the new charge during a hearing Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. His bond was previously set at $100,000.
