Man arrested after crash, barricade situation near Melrose Park

MELROSE PARK (STMW) - A driver involved in a crash on the Tri-State Tollway was arrested Friday after fighting with a state trooper, running away from the scene and barricading himself inside a home near west suburban Melrose Park.

The two-vehicle crash happened about 7:15 a.m. on I-294 near Grand Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

When police arrived, one of the drivers got into a “physical altercation” with a trooper and then ran away on foot across the interstate, state police said. The trooper suffered minor injuries in the altercation.

The man barricaded himself inside a house in unincorporated Leyden Township near Melrose Park, but was taken into custody just after 10 a.m. “without incident,” state police said.

Further details were not immediately available.
