Two guns were recovered by Evanston police in the northern suburb over the weekend.

At 11:11 p.m. Sunday, officers on patrol noticed a parked vehicle that had an odor of cannabis emanating from inside in the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue, according to Evanston police.

Eighteen-year-old Jon Vansach was sitting in the driver’s seat with a clear plastic bag containing cannabis on his lap, a statement from police said. A search of the vehicle turned up a loaded Lorcin 9mm handgun in the glove compartment, as well as miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.

Vansach, who lives on the same block, was charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon, one felony count of unlawful possession of cannabis, and misdemeanor counts of no FOID card, unlawful use of a weapon/ammunition, and three counts of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

About 2:20 a.m. Saturday, police received an anonymous tip of a handgun hidden in the alley near Foster and Berwyn Avenue.

Officers checked the area and recovered a loaded Hopkins and Allen .32 caliber revolver in the alley, police said. It was inventoried and will be sent to the crime lab for further analysis.
