$5M bond for man charged with DUI in crash that injured 7

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Bond was set at $5 million Thursday for a man charged with driving drunk when he crashed an SUV Tuesday evening in the South Side Chatham neighborhood, sending an 11-year-old girl and six more people to hospitals.
William Dunlap, 68, faces two felony counts of aggravated DUI, two misdemeanor counts of DUI and a misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident, according to Chicago Police.
Dunlap was driving in the 7900 block of South Vincennes about 6:30 p.m. when he hit two other vehicles, the girl and a home, pinning the girl against a porch, police and fire officials said. She was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Another person was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition. Two more people were taken to Holy Cross Hospital and another two to Trinity Hospital, all in good condition. Another was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, where their condition was stabilized, fire officials said.
Dunlap, who was among the injured, was also cited for failure to keep in a lane, driving to the left of center, failure to reduce speed and driving on a sidewalk or parkway, police said. He lives in the 12500 block of South Laflin.
A judge set bond at $5 million during a Thursday hearing, according to the Cook County sheriff’s office. His next court date is Sept. 23.
