A man was ordered held on a $250,000 bond Friday after police said he left a suspicious backpack a block away from President Barack Obama’s Kenwood neighborhood home.

Marquez Hassell, 20, of the 5500 block of South LaSalle, faces one felony count of disorderly conduct by falsifying a bomb threat in the Thursday morning incident, according to Chicago Police.

Police and fire crews were called to a report of a suspicious package about 11:30 a.m. in the 5100 block of South Greenwood, police said. Obama’s home is a block north in the 5000 block of South Greenwood.

Traffic was blocked off in the area as police Bomb and Arson Unit members cleared the scene and determined the backpack was not a threat, police said.

Details about Hassell’s Thursday arrest were not released. On Friday, a Cook County judge ordered Hassell wear an electronic monitoring device if he posts the $250,000 bond.
