A south suburban man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for crashing into a minivan while drag racing, leaving two parents dead and their three children injured nearly a year ago in Robbins.

Douglas McGrew, 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated DUI in an accident causing death at a hearing Tuesday at the Markham courthouse, according to Cook County court records. The rest of the charges against him were dropped.

About 7:40 p.m. Aug. 27, 2015, McGrew was behind the wheel of a Buick Regal racing against Craig Stevenson northbound on Central Park Avenue when both cars blew a stop sign and collided with a minivan heading west at the intersection of 137th Street, authorities said at the time.

The minivan’s 43-year-old driver, Cherise Davis-Jones, and her 59-year-old husband, Less Jone — both of the 13400 block of South Hamlin in Robbins — were pronounced dead within hours of the crash, authorities said.

Their three children in the backseat — ages 6, 7 and 8 — suffered injuries ranging from bruises to a broken leg.

Judge Brian Flaherty sentenced McGrew to 15 years for each count Tuesday, according to court records. The sentences will run concurrently, and he will receive credit for 341 days served in the Cook County Jail. McGrew will also have to serve two years of supervised release.

McGrew’s co-defendant, the 42-year-old Stevenson of Lynwood, is next scheduled to appear in court Aug. 30.
