Man gets 20 years for molesting stepdaughter, starting when she was 9

WHEATON (STMW) - A west suburban man who sexually assaulted his stepdaughter for four years, starting when the girl was 9, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Judge Robert Miller on Friday sentenced Charles Williams Jr., 40, of Glendale Heights to 20 years after he pleaded of guilty to one count of predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, according to a statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

“For four horrible years, this young victim was forced to live in the same house with a man who repeatedly sexually assaulted her,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the statement.

Prosecutors claimed that from the time the girl was 9 until approximately ate 13 years-old, Williams sexually assaulted her on “numerous occasions at the family home, usually when the girl’s mother was working and Williams was home with the girl.

In July 2014, “the girl’s mother noticed a mark on the girl’s neck. It was at this time that the girl disclosed to her mother that Williams had been sexually assaulting her since she was nine years old,” prosecutors said.

The woman called Glendale Heights police and Williams was arrested the next day. He has been held in the DuPage County Jail on a $500,000 bond since July 28, 2014. By law he must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before he is eligible for parole.

“Following the assaults, [the victim] showed tremendous courage in disclosing to her mother what Mr. Williams had done to her and for that I commend her. Thanks to her strength, Mr. Williams will spend the next 20 years of his life behind bars where he will be unable to prey upon innocent little girls to satisfy his disgusting sexual desires,” Berlin said.
