Man gets 262 months for taking girl to Illinois for prostitution

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A Milwaukee man has been sentenced to more than 21 years in federal prison for taking a 15-year-old girl from Wisconsin to Illinois, where he forced her into prostitution.

Dajuan Key, 32, was convicted of one count of knowingly transporting a minor across state lines to engage in prostitution after a three-day trial in February in U.S. District Court in Chicago, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Key met the girl online before he picked her up in Madison, Wisconsin, in September 2013, prosecutors said. He brought her to southwest suburban Romeoville, where he forced her to perform sex acts for pay and kept all the money.

He took photos of the girl, provided her with lingerie, posted advertisements on Backpage.com, and rented hotel rooms for the sexual encounters with those who responded, prosecutors said.

Romeoville police found the girl on Sept. 10, 2013, and arrested Key. The Milwaukee FBI also assisted with the investigation.

Judge Virginia Kendall sentenced Key to 262 months in prison Wednesday, according to FBI spokesman Garrett Croon. He will also have to serve five years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay $3,300 in restitution.
