CHICAGO (STMW) - A man convicted of firing shots while leading Chicago Police on a high-speed chase down an 11-mile stretch of the Dan Ryan Expressway was sentenced to 71 years in prison Monday.

Terrell Phagan, 28, was previously convicted of attempted murder of a police officer, armed robbery, and aggravated vehicular hijacking charges in connection with the chase in October 2011, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.

Phagan led police on the high-speed chase after officers attempted to pull him over near 99th and Halsted for driving a van that had been stolen nearby, police said.

He fired a handgun multiple times at police during the chase, which began on the Dan Ryan and ended in the Bronzeville neighborhood after he crashed the van he had stolen near the 3000 block of South King Drive and was arrested, prosecutors said.

No officers were injured in the chase.

Judge Mary Margaret Brosnahan sentenced Phagan to 50 years for the attempted murder charge, and a consecutive 21-year sentence for the armed robbery and aggravated vehicular hijacking convictions.
