Man killed, 14 wounded in Tuesday shootings

A man was killed and 14 other people — including a woman critically injured while taking out the trash — were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Tuesday.

The fatal shooting victim was discovered about 4:45 a.m. in a South Chicago neighborhood home.

Officers found 48-year-old Albert Gonzalez dead with a gunshot wound to the neck inside his home in the 8500 block of South Burley, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Area South detectives have launched a homicide investigation.

Just before 11 p.m., a 48-year-old woman was shot while she was taking out the trash in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

She was shot multiple times in the 9300 block of South Chappel and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

A police source said her son had been involved in an earlier altercation with unknown offenders.

The latest non-fatal shooting happened shortly before midnight in Belmont Cragin on the Northwest Side.

A 36-year-old man was standing on a porch in the 3200 block of North Linder when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside opened fire, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and leg, as well as a graze wound to the back, and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge in fair condition.

Another Northwest Side shooting about half an hour earlier left a 25-year-old man injured.

He was walking down the street in the 2000 block of North Pulaski in the Hermosa neighborhood when two people on bicycles rode up and started shooting, police said. He was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with wounds to the hip and leg. Investigators think the shooting was gang-related.

About 11:20 p.m., someone shot a 14-year-old boy during an attempted robbery in the Lawndale neighborhood’s 2100 block of South Pulaski. He was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.

An hour earlier, three people were shot in a Woodlawn neighborhood drive-by on the South Side.

At 10:22 p.m., a 17-year-old girl was walking down the street with a man and woman, both 21, in the 1500 block of East 66th Place when someone fired shots from a passing SUV, police said.

The teenager was taken to Mount Sinai and the woman to Stroger Hospital, both with leg wounds. The man was shot in the back and armpit and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said. Their conditions stabilized, police said.

Earlier Tuesday night, a 16-year-old girl was shot in Englewood’s 7200 block of South Union.

She was standing outside with a group about 8:10 p.m. when two people started shooting in their direction. She was shot in the left foot and taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where her condition stabilized, police said.

A separate Calumet Heights neighborhood shooting left a 23-year-old man wounded about 5:10 p.m. in the 9200 block of South Luella. He took himself to Advocate Trinity Hospital after the possible drive-by shooting with gunshot wounds to his buttocks and arm, police said. His condition had stabilized.

Tuesday morning, a 19-year-old man heard shots and realized he’d been shot in the buttocks in West Englewood about 9:50 a.m. in the 1500 block of West 73rd Place, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition.

Another triple shooting on the South Side happened early Tuesday in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

About 1:30 a.m., two 16-year-old girls and a 21-year-old man were walking down the street in the 5400 block of South Wood when they heard shots and realized they had been hit, police said.

One of the girls was shot in the arm and taken to Stroger Hospital. The other suffered a graze wound to the hip and was taken to Saint Bernard, as was the man, who was shot in the elbow, police said. All were listed in good condition.

Tuesday’s first shooting happened about 12:20 a.m. in Humboldt Park on the West Side.

A 28-year-old man was shot in the back in a possible drive-by shooting in the 1500 block of North Washtenaw, police said. His condition was stabilized at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Police said he is a self-admitted gang member.
