Brothers charged with murder for fatal cell phone store holdup

SOUTH HOLLAND (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Two brothers have charged with the murder of a man who tried to intervene as they held up a cell phone store Tuesday afternoon in south suburban South Holland.

Floyd Bell, 24,of Chicago; and DeAngelo Parker, 27, of Ogden, Utah, are each charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. In court Friday in Markham, Parker was ordered held without bond, and Bell was ordered held on $750,000.

Christopher Allen Lloyd, 45, of Gary, Indiana, was shot when the pair tried to rob the Boost Mobile store at 1022 E. 162nd St. about 2 p.m. Tuesday, according to South Holland police.

Several customers and employees were inside when Parker walked in, wearing a mask and carrying a gun, according to prosecutors. He took money from the register, then ordered the clerk and several customers to the back of the store and ordered the clerk to open the safe.

That’s when Lloyd attempted to disarm him, but Parker shot him before running out of the store, prosecutors said.

Lloyd was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, where he died at 2:46 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 2000 block of Hanley Street in Gary, Indiana.

Parker was found a short time later, hiding behind a Dumpster just a block away from the scene, according to prosecutors. Police found the gun and a sweatshirt in the Dumpster, and found bloodstains on Parker’s clothing. Parker was communicating with his brother at the time of his arrest.

Bell was seen driving from the scene in a white vehicle. He was a captured the next day when officers spotted the vehicle.

Bell allegedly admitted to planning the robbery and serving as the getaway driver, prosecutors said. Parker later admitted to his role in both the robbery and the shooting.

Both brothers will be back in court June 8 in Markham.
