A robbery suspect who was shot by Chicago Police officers Thursday night in Englewood has been ordered held on a $500,000 bond.

Roy Morris, 28, was charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer with a firearm, armed robbery with a firearm and possession of between 15 and 100 grams of cocaine, according to Chicago Police.

Officers were called to a robbery about 6:50 p.m. Thursday in the 6700 block of South May, according to a CPD statement and Independent Police Review Authority spokeswoman Mia Sissac.

A 24-year-old man pointed officers to a man he said had robbed him, police said. They chased the suspect down a gangway and saw a weapon in his hand, police said.

The officers told him to drop it and shot him twice in “the lower extremities” when he didn’t, police said.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene, police said.

The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days, per CPD policy. IPRA is investigating the use of force.

About 45 minutes later that night, 18-year-old Paul O’Neal was fatally shot by Chicago Police officers in the South Shore neighborhood.

Morris, of the 7900 block of South Langley, was ordered held on a $500,000 bond, according to police and the Cook County sheriff’s office. He is next scheduled to appear in court Aug. 16.
