CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A man was in custody and charges were pending Friday evening after he allegedly attacked a 67-year-old woman on a CTA Red Line train.

Chicago Police distributed surveillance photos of the man Friday afternoon and posted them to social media in hope that community members would help identify him.

Police announced that the man in the photos was in custody and that charges were pending again him in a post on the department’s official Twitter page about 5 p.m.

“Thank you to you the public and everyone for your assistance in finding this suspect,” the department Tweeted. “The partnership between the Police and community works and this is just the most recent example. Thank you!”

The woman was on the northbound train going home to Evanston when she was attacked “completely unprovoked” about noon Thursday and punched in the face, police said. She suffered a serious injury to her eye.

The man left the train at the Jarvis stop, police said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Area North detectives at (312) 744-8266.
