Mother, daughter critically wounded in Burnside shooting

FOX 32 NEWS - A mother and daughter were shot and critically wounded Thursday afternoon in the Burnside neighborhood on the South Side.

Nichole Modacure, 41, and her 19-year-old daughter Eliza Woods were inside their home at 5:48 p.m. in the 600 block of East 92nd Place when multiple people outside fired shots into the building, according to Chicago Police.

The older woman was shot in the neck, while the younger woman suffered three gunshot wounds to the torso and one to the left leg, police said. They were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where they were listed in critical condition.

The victims' relative told FOX 32 that the women called the police after they were threatened by a group of young men. The relatives say the men may have an an issue with the son of Modacue.

The family says the police showed up and then the men left the block, but a few minutes after police left, the men came back with guns.

The victims' family says both mom and daughter go to college, and that Woods is the mother of a newborn who was in the home at the time of the shooting, along with another child. Both babies, though, were not hurt.

Chicago police are searching for the men responsible.
