Neighbors rattled after shootout outside Logan Square Airbnb

- Chicago Police are investigating a raucous party at a Logan Square Airbnb earlier this month that ended with two people being shot and bullet holes in nearby homes.

Neighbors said more than 200 people showed up to a rented home in the 1900 block of North Lawndale Avenue on July 1 for a party.

As first reported by Block Club Chicago, residents said they woke up to the shooting around 4 a.m. and described it sounding like "absolute war" and they have the damage to prove it. Black-and-white surveillance footage showed a crowd of people in the street scattering after a car pulls up.

Chicago Police said no one is in custody but a man was shot in the back while waiting for a ride and was in critical condition. A woman was also shot in the leg.

A neighbor who lived a few houses down showed us damage on her home including multiple bullet holes on her property.

“There were 30 shell casings recovered just here at least 15 hit my property and another 15 hit my neighbor's home," neighbor Christina Cochran said.

They are now calling for changes to the Airbnb policies in Chicago and want more vetting of guests.

Airbnb released a statement: "We have removed this host and guest from our platform while we investigate this incident and will be supporting the neighbors impacted under our host protection insurance program.”

Neighbors tell us their alderman said the homeowner has been permanently shut down as a Airbnb site.

The owner of the home, who lives in Iowa, declined to discuss details about the incident, saying "the shooting was down the block, we have nothing to do with it."
