Off-duty CPD officer stabbed in 'domestic incident' in South Shore

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - An off-duty Chicago Police officer was stabbed while driving Friday morning in the South Shore neighborhood, causing her vehicle to hit a school bus.

The 47-year-old woman was driving about 8:14 a.m. near 76th and Stony Island Avenue when she was stabbed multiple times by someone she knew inside the vehicle, according to  Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt and Chicago Police.

Police called the attack a “domestic incident” but did not specify the relationship between the officer and the male suspect.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition with a head injury, police initially reported. Her condition has since been stabilized and she was expected to recover, authorities said.

As a result of the stabbing, the vehicle crashed into a school bus, Merritt said. A 12-year-old boy who was on the bus was taken to Jackson Park Hospital to be treated for a headache.

No one was in custody Friday afternoon as Area South detectives continued to investigate.
