Officials: Man killed, boy grazed in East Garfield Park shooting

A 27-year-old man was killed and a 10-year-old boy wounded in a Saturday afternoon shooting in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, officials said.

Just after 1 p.m., Yanong Woods was standing outside in the 3800 block of West Madison when a gunman walked up and shot him in the chest, knee and thigh, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Woods was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 1:35 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 3100 block of West Huron.

A 10-year-old boy was grazed in the shooting and taken to Stroger in good condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

No one was in custody for the attack Sunday night.
