Man charged with domestic battery in West Side barricade situation

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man was charged Thursday in connection with barricade situation in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Eddie L. Simmons, 42, faces two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery and was ordered held without bond, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County sheriff’s office.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of North Christiana Avenue, when a man ran away from police into a first-floor apartment, according to Chicago Police. He refused to exit, and SWAT teams were called to respond.

It was unclear if he had a weapon or if anyone else was in the apartment with him, police said. Authorities took Simmons into custody and secured the scene just before 1:40 a.m.

Simmons, who lives in the same block where the incident took place, is next scheduled to appear in court Jan. 21, according to the sheriff’s office.
