(SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - A convicted felon on parole was arrested Sunday after he pointed a gun at a person in northwest suburban Elgin, police said.
Oswaldo Garcia, 33, has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with no FOID card, both felonies, according to a statement from Elgin police. He also faces misdemeanor charges of obstructing/resisting a peace officer and aggravated assault.
About 4:45 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person with a gun in the 500 block of West Highland Avenue, police said. The victim said he had been standing near his car in a parking lot when someone walked up to him, pointed a handgun at him, then ran away through backyards.
Minutes later, officers found someone matching the suspect’s description and the victim identified him, police said. Officers also found a loaded handgun in a yard nearby.
Garcia was released on parole in April 2016 after being sentenced to four years in prison for property damage in 2014, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.
